The State of California requires that backflow prevention assemblies be installed on all hazardous cross-connections in an effort to keep our water supply safe. These assemblies must be tested and certified every year to ensure that they are working properly.
Backflow devices are required to be tested annually by March 15.
Owners must contact a tester approved by the City of Riverbank to schedule an appointment to test their backflow device at the owner’s expense.
What is a Cross-Connection?
A cross-connection is any connection between a public water system or consumer’s potable (i.e. drinking) water system and any source or system containing non-potable water or other substances.
What is a Backflow?
According to the American Backflow Prevention Association, a backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow of non-potable water or other substances through a cross-connection and into the piping of a public water system or consumer’s potable water system.
