Garbage and Recycling
The City has a 2-can recycling system.
The black can is for garbage and recyclables - recyclables should be co-mingled in a blue bag and then placed in the black can.
The gray can is for yard waste and paper products only. Small branches or trees (i.e. Christmas Trees) should be cut down to fit completely within the gray can.
Lids of both cans should close completely if at all possible.
Recycling for all businesses and apartment communities / multifamily housing complexes is mandatory.
State Law now requires that all businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of waste per week and all apartment communities / multifamily housing complexes with 5 or more units must recycle. These regulations took effect on July 1, 2012.
Businesses that meet the threshold must arrange for recycling services. A letter went out to the businesses and apartment complexes in Riverbank explaining the requirements along with a questionnaire and recycling information. View a copy of the letter and questionnaire (PDF) as well as the recycling information (PDF).
For those Businesses or Apartment / Housing Complexes that already have a recycling program in place, let the City know by filling out the letter and questionnaire previously mentioned. Fill out the questionnaire and mail it to:
